Quinta Bandstand (Chinese Pagoda)

The Quinta Bandstand rises from the gardens as a cast-iron pagoda with distinctive, upturned eaves painted in bold red and gold. Originally commissioned by the Portuguese royal family, this structure arrived in Rio de Janeiro in pieces from England during the nineteenth century. Emperor Pedro the Second often hosted military bands here, filling the surrounding grounds with brass melodies during the weekends. It served as a place for the aristocracy to gather, listen to music, and watch the public walk below.
