Edificio Solimar

The Edificio Solimar rises above the corner of Aramburu and San Lazaro streets, defined by its stark white, stepped silhouette that resembles a modernist ocean liner frozen in concrete. Built in nineteen forty-four, this apartment block represented a sudden shift toward geometric abstraction in Havana. Architect Manuel Copado designed the structure to maximize airflow for its residents through deep recessed balconies. Its sharp, ship-like prow pointed directly toward the nearby sea, turning the building into a landmark of Cuban architectural progress.
