St. Marien Dom

The St. Marien Dom features a tall, brick-clad facade capped by a prominent green copper spire that anchors the skyline of the St. Georg neighborhood. This church serves as the cathedral for the Catholic Archdiocese of Hamburg. In eighteen ninety-three, when the city lacked a prominent Catholic presence, architect Arnold Güldenpfennig designed this structure in a neo-Romanesque style to assert the faith's return. Workers laid the final stone in eighteen ninety-nine, marking the first Catholic cathedral consecrated in Hamburg since the Protestant Reformation.
