The Palazzo Lamba Doria features a jagged, asymmetric facade built from alternating blocks of black slate and white marble. This building served as the seat of the Doria family, who dominated Genoese politics and naval warfare for centuries. In twelve ninety-eight, Admiral Lamba Doria returned here after crushing the Venetian fleet at the Battle of Curzola. He brought back the chain that once barred the Venetian harbor, and had it hung across the building’s exterior to mark his triumph over their greatest rival.
