Piazza Magione

Piazza Magione is a vast, open rectangle of grass and gravel defined by the jagged, hollowed-out stone shells of buildings that collapsed during the Allied bombing raids of nineteen forty-three. While the rest of Palermo rebuilt over the decades, this site remained a scarred void. The debris was cleared, but the skeletons of the surrounding houses stand as they were left after the sirens stopped. It persists as a wide, quiet space where children play soccer in the shadow of historical ruin.
