The bright red wooden cars rely on a simple steel cable system powered by electric motors, a setup that replaced the city's earlier steam engines. Inside the building, visitors watch the massive iron gears still turn the cables beneath the floorboards. In nineteen seventy-eight, these vintage machines finally stopped running when the system switched to newer technology, becoming the museum's centerpiece.
