Clyde Quay Boat Harbour

The Clyde Quay Boat Harbour features a series of distinctive, white-painted timber piles that rise from the water, framing the docked yachts against the city hills. This basin began as a purposeful engineering project in nineteen twenty-seven. Before the concrete sea walls went in, the area was a shallow, exposed stretch of the Wellington waterfront. Builders carved this sheltered rectangle into the shoreline so the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club could move its fleet into a secure, permanent home.
