Plazuela Santo Cristo de las Maravillas

A stone cross stands at the center of this small plaza, surrounded by traditional wooden balconies that hang over the narrow streets. This spot marks the site of a colonial legend involving a carved image of Christ. According to the account, a wealthy merchant named Juan de la Torre bought the crucifix in the seventeenth century. When he tried to move it to his own home, the heavy wooden statue became impossible to lift, leading him to believe the cross chose this specific location.
