Masjid Jamae (Chulia)

Masjid Jamae features a distinctive facade with two tall, octagonal minarets topped with onion-shaped domes that stand out against the surrounding shophouses. Tamil Muslim traders from the Coromandel Coast built this mosque in the eighteen twenties to serve their community. While the surrounding area grew into a dense commercial district, the mosque remained a quiet gathering point. An early imam reportedly insisted on keeping the original structure intact, refusing any expansion that would alter the distinct, colorful towers that define its silhouette today.
