Kansong Art Museum

The Kansong Art Museum is a low, unassuming two-story brick building tucked into the hilly Seongbuk-dong neighborhood. It houses the private collection of Jeon Hyeong-pil, a man who spent his fortune during the Japanese colonial occupation buying up Korean cultural treasures to keep them from being shipped abroad. Jeon once paid a massive sum for a single rare ceramic piece, refusing to negotiate the price because he believed the seller was underestimating its worth. The museum opens its doors only twice a year.
