Yonsei University Underwood Hall

Underwood Hall sits at the center of the Yonsei University campus, identifiable by its thick gray stone walls and the sharp, jagged gables of its collegiate gothic roof. Built in nineteen twenty-five, the building honors Horace Grant Underwood, the American missionary who founded the predecessor to this university. When the structure was completed, the university lacked the funds to furnish the interior, so students spent their first semesters studying in rooms that were essentially empty shells, using wooden crates as desks.
