Palacio de Altamira. Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte

historic

The Palacio de Altamira displays a sharp, corner-facing tower and a grand portal carved from reddish stone. This sixteenth century manor house served as the residence for the Counts of Altamira. It eventually became the headquarters for the regional government department of culture. During renovations in the nineteen nineties, workers uncovered a Roman floor beneath the courtyard. It belongs to a much older villa that occupied this exact spot nearly two thousand years ago, long before the current palace took shape.
