The house at 2640 Steiner Street is recognized by millions as the Hillard family residence from the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire. While the exterior of this Victorian home remains a landmark of Pacific Heights, the interior rooms seen on screen were constructed entirely on a soundstage in a converted warehouse, as the real house was considered too small for the production requirements. Built in 1893 by architect Joachim B. Mathison, the residence is a private home, but its cinematic fame brings a constant flow of visitors to the corner of Steiner and Broadway.
