Phuong Do - Bamboo roots Carving

The workshop walls hold hundreds of carved bamboo roots, each shaped into the faces of elderly men with long, flowing beards or small, whimsical forest creatures. Phuong Do selects roots that have grown into gnarled, twisting shapes underground, then spends days carving away the exterior to reveal the character hidden inside the wood. He began this practice decades ago after discovering the natural human-like forms in abandoned bamboo thickets, turning discarded stumps into figures that now fill his small shop space.
