Museu do Amanhã

museum

The Museu do Amanhã extends into the Guanabara Bay on a long pier, its roof composed of enormous white steel wings that shift position throughout the day to follow the path of the sun. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the museum ignores historical artifacts to focus entirely on sustainability and the future of the planet. During construction, workers unearthed granite paving stones from the nineteenth century, which are now preserved inside the structure as a reminder of the site's previous life as a busy harbor terminal.
