Finestrella - Canale di Reno

landmark

A small, arched window cut into the stone wall of the Via Piella frames a view of the Canale di Reno flowing between narrow, pastel-colored buildings. While most of Bologna hides its medieval waterway network underground, this spot offers a rare glimpse of the city as it appeared centuries ago. In nineteen forty-three, heavy Allied bombing destroyed much of the surrounding neighborhood, yet this section of the canal remained miraculously intact, preserving the only sight of the original water infrastructure left in the city.
