The Sacrario dei Caduti della Resistenza occupies a stark, minimalist space inside the Certosa di Bologna cemetery. It holds the remains of partisans who fought against fascist forces during the second world war. Its design relies on a series of vertical stone pillars inscribed with names, set against a backdrop of bare concrete. When the architect Leonardo Benevolo designed this memorial in the nineteen sixties, he aimed for a quiet, uniform look where every name shares equal space, regardless of the person's rank or background.
