Scoletta dei Calegheri

The Scoletta dei Calegheri features a marble relief above its doorway showing Saint Mark healing the cobbler Anianus. This building served as the headquarters for the Venetian shoemakers guild, or scuola, founded in the late thirteenth century. The guild members commissioned this space to hold their religious meetings and manage their charity funds. During the annual feast, members decorated the facade with silk hangings. A small stone carving near the entrance still marks where they collected coins for the poor.
