The Vulcan Building stands out for its narrow, triangular footprint, squeezed tightly between Vulcan Lane and Queen Street. It rises four stories in a deep reddish-brown brick, crowned by a distinctive, rounded corner turret. Built in nineteen twenty-eight, it replaced a smaller timber hotel on the same site. Architect George Tole designed it to maximize the cramped, wedge-shaped plot. These days, the ground floor opens directly onto the busy pavement, hosting various shops that serve the daily flow of pedestrians.
