NARANJI MAHARAJ RUWI

The Naranji Maharaj Ruwi temple sits in a narrow alleyway, recognizable by the distinct white archway carved with intricate traditional patterns. Established in the late nineteenth century, it served as a spiritual anchor for the Gujarati merchant community arriving in Muscat to trade spices and textiles. In eighteen ninety-nine, the merchant Naranji Maharaj founded this space to house a shrine for his family and fellow traders. It remains one of the oldest Hindu temples in the Arabian Peninsula, predating modern infrastructure in the city.
