The Shrine of Erawan

religious

The Erawan Shrine holds a small, gold-painted statue of Brahma, tucked behind a fence of heavy, carved wooden pillars at a busy intersection. The shrine appeared in nineteen fifty-six because construction workers building the nearby Erawan Hotel faced constant accidents and delays. Workers refused to continue until the site received a spiritual blessing. They installed this shrine to appease the local spirits, and the accidents stopped. Today, people from all over the world stop here to leave jasmine garlands and carved wooden elephants.
