The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding occupies a wind-tower house built of coral, plaster, and palm fronds. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Mutawa Al Bedwawi constructed this home in nineteen forty-four, choosing a design that channels desert breezes into the interior rooms to keep them cool. When the original family moved out decades later, the house faced demolition. Instead, the government restored the structure and invited Abdullah’s grandson to establish a space where residents could explain Emirati traditions to curious visitors.
