Rivington House

The building you are approaching at 45 Rivington Street began its life in 1898 as Public School 20. It was designed by the city's Superintendent of School Buildings, C. B. J. Snyder, who favored a distinct architectural approach for schools to maximize natural light. He constructed the building in a U-shape, a common structural quirk in his designs that ensured classrooms remained bright and well-ventilated for the children of the Lower East Side.
