Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary is defined by its asymmetrical facade, where one bell tower appears noticeably stouter and broader than the other. Completed in the late eighteenth century by the Jesuit order, the structure rests on a foundation of coral stone harvested from the ocean floor. When workers finished the walls, they famously discovered tiny fossilized seashells embedded in the masonry, a lingering mark of the Caribbean sea that remains visible in the stone today.
