AlKhalifa Community Center - Megawra

The Al Khalifa Community Center sits inside a restored nineteenth century building, recognizable by the intricate mashrabiya woodwork covering its upper windows. Once a derelict house, it serves as the headquarters for Megawra, a collective that linked the building’s preservation directly to the needs of the neighborhood. Architect May al-Ibrashy argued that saving this structure required making it useful to local residents. Today, the space hosts after school programs and workshops, housing historic documents alongside everyday craft projects for children in the district.
