Mosque of Qanibay al-Rammah

The Mosque of Qanibay al-Rammah sits on a high rocky spur, marked by a slender, intricately carved minaret that rises above a distinctive, ribbed stone dome. Built in the early sixteenth century for a Mamluk official, the structure combines a mosque, a madrasa, and a tomb. Qanibay was a master of the stables to the sultan, a position that granted him immense wealth. He died in battle against the Ottomans before he could fully occupy the complex he commissioned for his own burial.
