Jardin Catherine-Labouré

The Jardin Catherine Labouré was once the private kitchen garden for the convent of the Daughters of Charity. This religious order was established on this site in sixteen thirty-three by Saint Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac. For centuries, this soil provided food for the nuns who lived behind high stone walls, completely hidden from the life of the surrounding city. It remained a restricted, working space for the convent until the nineteen seventies, when the City of Paris acquired the land and opened it to the public as a quiet sanctuary.
