Army Museum (Paris)

The Army Museum sits within the walls of the Hôtel national des Invalides, a massive complex originally commissioned in the seventeenth century by Louis XIV. While today it serves as a repository for half a million military artifacts, its existence began as a refuge and hospital for aging and wounded soldiers, providing them a place to live out their years in a city dedicated to their service. The site’s golden dome, which dominates the skyline, was designed as a royal chapel and now serves as the final resting place for several of France's most prominent military figures.
