Tuileries

The Tuileries Garden is a vast grid of gravel paths, manicured lime trees, and bronze statues stretching between the Louvre and the Place de la Concorde. Catherine de Medici commissioned this space in fifteen sixty-four as a private park for her palace, which burned down during the Paris Commune uprisings of eighteen seventy-one. Where the queen once kept her secluded Italian-style garden, André Le Nôtre later laid out the wide, formal vistas that defined the landscape for the French monarchy.
