Maison de Verre

The Maison de Verre features an entire facade of translucent glass blocks held in place by a rigid steel frame. Pierre Chareau designed this house in the late nineteen twenties for the Dalsace family, who wanted a home that integrated a medical clinic on the ground floor. During the German occupation of Paris, the Dalsaces fled, and a German doctor requisitioned the space, eventually removing several original furniture pieces. The steel skeleton remains, housing a interior defined by rotating metal panels and exposed mechanical systems.
