Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (France)

An eternal flame flickers beneath the massive stone arch of the Arc de Triomphe, marking the final resting place of an unidentified French soldier from the First World War. This grave honors the memory of those who died in combat but whose names were never known. In nineteen twenty-three, the flame was lit for the first time, establishing a tradition of memory that continues today. Every evening at half past six, veterans gather here to rekindle the fire, regardless of the weather.
