La Fermette Marbeuf holds a secret behind its walls that remained hidden for decades. While the restaurant was founded in 1898 to serve guests during the Paris Universal Exhibition, its most striking feature—a magnificent Art Nouveau winter garden room—was entirely lost to time. For years, this ornate space, filled with intricate ceramics, frescoes, and a massive stained-glass ceiling, was boarded up and forgotten. It was only during renovations in 1978 that workers accidentally pierced a wall and rediscovered the breathtaking space. The room was painstakingly restored, and its status as a piece of history was solidified in 1983 when it was officially designated a French historical monument. You can still dine under that same soaring glass roof today.
