Eiffel Tower viewpoint

The Trocadéro gardens slope toward a rectangular terrace defined by a stone balcony, providing the clearest framing of the Eiffel Tower across the Seine. When engineers designed this platform for the nineteen thirty-seven World Fair, they replaced an older, curved palace. Gaston Palewski, a political aide, stood on this specific terrace in nineteen forty when he watched German troops march toward the landmark across the water. He later joined the resistance in London, convinced that this viewpoint would eventually mark a liberation.
