Cimetière de Passy

The Cimetière de Passy sits tucked behind a high stone wall, recognizable by the wrought iron gate that frames the Eiffel Tower in the distance. This small graveyard serves as the final resting place for Parisians who wanted to remain in the heart of the city rather than move to the sprawling outer cemeteries. In eighteen seventy-four, the painter Édouard Manet was buried here. His funeral drew many of the most famous artists of his time, despite the rain that poured down during the procession.
