Musée Marmottan Monet

The Musée Marmottan Monet occupies a Second Empire mansion that looks like a quiet private residence tucked away near the edge of the Bois de Boulogne. It holds the world’s largest collection of Claude Monet paintings, but the house itself was originally built for a hunting lodge. Jules Marmottan bought it in eighteen eighty-two to display his vast collection of medieval tapestries. His son Paul later filled the rooms with delicate furniture from the Napoleonic era, leaving the art to arrive much later.
