Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty standing on the Île aux Cygnes in Paris is a smaller bronze sister to the famous monument in New York Harbor. It faces west, directly toward its massive counterpart across the Atlantic. Created in eighteen eighty-nine for the centennial of the French Revolution, it commemorates the shared democratic ideals between France and the United States. Sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi intended this replica to signal the enduring friendship forged during the American struggle for independence.
