Palais de Chaillot

Two curved wings stretch out like outstretched arms from the Palais de Chaillot, framing the view of the Eiffel Tower across the river. Built for the nineteen thirty-seven World’s Fair, the structure replaced the older Trocadéro Palace. Architect Louis-Hippolyte Boileau and his colleagues designed the limestone facade to project a sense of modern power during a tense decade. During the nineteen forty-eight signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the building hosted the United Nations General Assembly in this very spot.
