Théâtre national de Chaillot

Two massive curved wings embrace the Trocadero gardens, topped with gilded statues that catch the light long after the sun dips below the horizon. This is the Théâtre national de Chaillot. Built for the nineteen thirty-seven World Fair, the structure replaced a crumbling palace to create a grand stage for the French Republic. In nineteen forty-eight, the United Nations General Assembly met in these halls to adopt the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the theater still carries that weight in its stone corridors.
