Monument to the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen

The Champ de Mars holds a stark, rectangular stele carved from gray granite, featuring a bronze relief of a woman draped in classical robes. It marks the bicentennial of the French Revolution, enshrining the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. During the nineteen eighty-nine celebrations, the sculptor Ivan Theimer chose to include hidden symbols and tiny figures within the stone, many of which only become clear when rain makes the bronze glisten against the cold, weathered surface of the rock.
