Palazzo Bernardo Nani

The Palazzo Bernardo Nani stands out with its heavy, rusticated stone facade and the distinctively arched, repetitive window frames that break up the sheer weight of the masonry. It was built during the late nineteenth century as a private residence for the Italian diplomat Count Bernardo Nani. He insisted on incorporating Venetian architectural motifs into the design to reflect his family heritage. During the nineteen thirties, the building served as a covert meeting point for clandestine diplomatic negotiations between French and Italian officials.
