Palais Galliera

The Palais Galliera features a facade of carved stone set off by rhythmic, soaring columns that hold up a heavy, ornate cornice. Marie Brignole-Sale, the Duchess of Galliera, commissioned this structure in the late nineteenth century to house her immense private art collection. She changed her mind before it ever opened, leaving the building empty for years. Today, it operates as the City of Paris Fashion Museum, where rotating exhibits fill the grand halls she originally intended for her paintings and sculptures.
