Musée Nissim de Camondo

The Musée Nissim de Camondo stands as a private mansion of pale stone, designed to mirror the elegance of the Petit Trianon at Versailles. Moise de Camondo commissioned the building in nineteen eleven to house his vast collection of eighteenth-century French furniture and art. He intended it as a family legacy for his son, Nissim. After Nissim died as a pilot in the First World War, Moise bequeathed the house and its entire contents to the French state in his son’s name.
