Panthéon Centre

The Pantheon stands at the top of the Sainte-Genevieve mountain, a site with a history that predates the current building by over a millennium. King Clovis, the first king of the Franks, founded a church here in the early sixth century as a burial place for himself and his queen. This ancient hilltop location had served as the forum for the Roman city of Lutetia long before those medieval royal tombs were ever laid. The current stone structure you see today rests upon these deep, overlapping layers of Parisian history.
