You are approaching the last home and studio of the legendary Romantic painter Eugène Delacroix. He moved into this apartment on the Rue de Furstenberg in late eighteen fifty-seven, specifically to be closer to the church of Saint-Sulpice. At the time, his health was failing, and the daily journey from his previous studio on the Right Bank had become too difficult, yet he remained determined to finish his monumental frescoes inside the church’s chapel.
