The Ecole du Louvre occupies a unique position within the sprawling palace of the Louvre. Founded in eighteen eighty two, it was conceived as a laboratory for the humanities, designed to train future curators and archaeologists by immersing them directly in the museum collections. While traditional universities focused on textbooks, this institution established the practice of holding tutorials in front of the actual artifacts.
