Buddhist Temple

The Laxmi Narayan Temple, often called the Birla Mandir, rises in shades of ochre and white sandstone against the Delhi skyline. Industrialist Baldeo Das Birla commissioned the structure in nineteen thirty-three to serve as a place of worship for all castes, a bold break from tradition at the time. Mahatma Gandhi insisted on this inclusive founding principle before he agreed to inaugurate the site in nineteen thirty-nine. The temple grounds feature carved shrines, fountains, and wide gardens that sit nestled within the city.
