The Oscar Wilde Monument

The Oscar Wilde Memorial Sculpture sits on a large quartz stone, featuring a reclining Wilde draped in a coat of tri-colored stone including pink granite from Galway and green marble from Connemara. Sculptor Danny Osborne designed the piece so that Wilde appears to be observing the nearby house where he spent his childhood. In nineteen ninety-seven, a local committee commissioned the work, and they placed it directly across from the writer’s former home on Merrion Square, capturing his characteristic, languid pose.
