Ohori Park Japanese Garden

The Ohori Park Japanese Garden features a wall made of piled stones and dark tile, designed to separate the quiet garden from the busy city streets beyond. It opened in nineteen eighty-four to celebrate the anniversary of the Fukuoka City municipal system. The designer, Kinsaku Nakane, used dry landscape techniques and a central pond to recreate the regional scenery of Kyushu. In the dry garden, white sand represents the sea, while stones act as islands rising from the water.
