Miyukimori Tenjingu features a pair of stone foxes guarding a gate that sits tucked away from the main road in Ikuno. The shrine grounds hold a massive camphor tree, its thick, gnarled roots pushing up through the surrounding pavement. People visit this spot to pay respects to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning, whose image resides inside. During the Heian period, locals believed the emperor rested under these very trees during his travels, establishing the site as a place of royal retreat.
