The Tsuruhashi Shopping Street fills the narrow, labyrinthine alleys beneath the elevated train tracks with the heavy, persistent scent of charcoal-grilled meat. After the Second World War, this area became a hub for black markets, where residents traded salvaged goods and food to survive. Today, dozens of stalls sell kimchi, offal, and spices, maintaining a gritty, intense atmosphere that feels detached from the polished shopping malls of central Osaka. It remains a center for the city's Korean community, rooted in those post-war survival networks.
